The first step in tracing an email is to get the header information. Headers are simply lines at the top of emails that are used by servers as the email goes on its route to being delivered. It is very easy to find the headers in an email regardless of which tracing an email you are using. On Gmail, all you need to do is to click on the show options link that is provided near the top of your email. Next, click on show original. That is it. A window with pop up with all the header information you need. The process of finding headers varies when using different email accounts, but all are easy. If you are looking for the original sender of the message, the easiest way is to locate the originating IP address header. If you cannot find the originating IP address, you can sift through the received headers to find a tip on which is the sender. This header is important because it can give you the IP address of the computer than sent the original message in which you are trying to trace. There are even websites that you can use to enter the originating IP address to trace the email even more effectively.
